Governor Sisolak Endorsed by Tribal Leaders, Recognized for Supporting Nevada’s Tribes

On the first day of American Indian Heritage Month, the Sisolak campaign announced it has been endorsed by 11 Tribal Leaders from across Nevada. Representing the Duck Valley Shoshone Paiute, Duckwater Shoshone, Fort McDermitt Paiute Shoshone, Goshute, Pyramid Lake Paiute, Summit Lake Paiute, Walker River Paiute, Yerington Paiute, and Ely Shoshone Tribes, as well as the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, these leaders are working to get out the vote in tribal communities on behalf of Governor Sisolak. In the 2020 election, Native voters had the highest turnout of any demographic in Nevada.

At the Nevada Day Pow Wow this weekend in Reno, Northern Nevada tribal communities honored Governor Sisolak for signing the NSHE Native American Fee Waiver which expanded access to affordable higher education for Native American students.

Governor Sisolak made important strides to support Nevada’s tribal communities during his first term. In addition to signing the NSHE Native American Fee waiver, the governor funded the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum, expanded high speed internet access to tribal lands, prohibited racially discriminatory names, logos, mascots or songs in Nevada’s K-12 public schools and banned “sundown sirens,” a racist relic that was used to terrorize Native Americans.

While other states worked to pass restrictive voting laws that disproportionately affect tribal communities, Governor Sisolak made it easier than ever to cast a ballot in Nevada so that every eligible voter can make their voice heard in this year’s election.
