NIC congratulates Chris Ann Gibbons for is being awarded the Historic Preservation Medal

Chris Ann Gibbons is being awarded the Historic Preservation Medal by the Daughters of the American Revolution Reno Chapter on March 11, 2023. The Historic Preservation Medal “recognizes and honors a person who has done extraordinary work over a long period of time in establishing a historic district, preserving a local landmark, restoring or preserving objects of historical cultural significance or establishing or participating in oral history projects, youth leadership and education, as it pertains to historic preservation at the regional, state, and/or national level.

Chris began with the Nevada Indian Commission in 2005 and is currently Curator of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum in Carson City, NV. As Curator, Chris works on organizing and preserving the archival documents, photographs, and artifacts, that tell Stewart’s history. She was an integral part of the team responsible for creating the Cultural Center & Museum which opened in 2019. Chris is a graduate of Southern Oregon University with a degree in History and minors in Native American Studies and Art History. In addition, she earned a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma.
