Stewart Community Chair, Darienne Tenorio

My name is Darienne Tenorio, a Washoe Tribal member and am the Chairperson for Stewart Community. My family is from Carson Colony, my Mother is Arline Bender Wells (1940-2020). She taught my sisters and I to be proud of being Washoe.  I have 3 children, 1 awesome grandson, and another grand baby on the way.

My tribal service began in 1999 as a Washoe Tribal Gaming Commissioner. From that point on, I also was elected to the Stewart Community,

and Washoe Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. From 2002 – 2010 I was Stewart Community Vice-Chair and Washoe Tribal Council Representative. In addition to the aforementioned, after completing my 3 Associates Degrees from WNC, I was a member of our Education Committee.

I took a break from tribal government and decided it was time to continue to serve my Tribe. I was appointed to Stewart Community Council as the Secretary/Treasurer in 2019, and my goal is to do the best of my ability in serving the membership of the Washoe Tribe.
